Wisconsin's Open Governor's Race: The Tiffany Ticket Faces the Crowley Ticket

Wisconsin polls were open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on November 3, with voters in line at 8 p.m. still able to vote; voters had to show valid photo ID, and those whose registration was out of date could re-register at the polls. The governor's race was for an open seat: Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany and his running mate, state Sen. Julian Bradley, faced Democratic Rep. Joel Brennan and his running mate Sarah Rodriguez on the campaign trail, while the printed ballot listed the Republican ticket as Tiffany and Michael Varnham and the Democratic ticket as Crowley and Godlevske. The open attorney general's race was also competitive, with Republican District Attorney Eric Toney against Democratic state Rep. Francesca Hong. Seventeen state Senate seats and all 99 state Assembly seats were up for election. The ballot also carried three referendum questions, on enforcement of federal immigration law, limits on shifting local law-enforcement funding, and a requirement that adults receiving state Medicaid work at least 20 hours a week. Appleton expected showers on Election Day, a high of 66 degrees, southwest winds of 11 to 14 mph and gusts to 28 mph. County election officials expected some races might not be decided until after midnight.
