Illinois Governor Election: AP Projects Pritzker Wins Re-election

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

The Associated Press projected on the evening of November 3 that Democratic incumbent Governor JB Pritzker has won re-election in Illinois, defeating Republican challenger Darren Bailey and securing a third term as governor.

When the AP made the call, 565 of Illinois's 8,496 precincts had reported, or 6.65%. Pritzker had 229,486 votes, Bailey 103,671, and independent candidate Collin Corbett 11,044, with an estimated 7.56% of the total vote counted. Counting is continuing; the figures are unofficial and final results are subject to certification by the state board of elections.

Pritzker first took office as governor of Illinois in 2019 and won re-election in 2022. Bailey, a former Republican state senator, was the Republican nominee for governor in this election.

The governor's race was held statewide on the same day as the federal Senate and House elections, with Springfield as the state capital.
