Wyoming Governor Gordon Issues Statement on State Supreme Court Decision Upholding Trust Land Lease

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon issued a statement on November 3 on a state Supreme Court decision handed down the same day: in Pronghorn H2 v. Stephen's Land and Livestock, the court upheld the State Board of Land Commissioners' original decision granting the lease at issue. Wyoming's capital is Cheyenne.

"Wyoming's state trust lands, given to the state to support the schools in our act of admission to the Union, continue to serve a vital constitutional purpose including to ensure a financial gain for public school children across Wyoming," Gordon said. "In the case of Pronghorn H2 vs Stephen's Land and Livestock, the Wyoming Supreme Court today upheld the very points myself and the State Treasurer were making when we voted to support the contractual obligations Wyoming had to this project."

"These decisions were never political, they were made to ensure the highest and best value for our state lands, buttressed by the legal, and contractual obligations made by the state. Today's Supreme Court decision affirms the original vote made by the State Board of Land Commissioners granting this lease," he added. Gordon thanked the Treasurer for his fidelity to the Constitution and the Attorney General, whose advice, he said, has been confirmed as sound and prudent.
