Hawaiʻi Public Utilities Commission Holds Hilo Hearing on November 4 on Hawaiian Electric's Rate Rebasing Application in Hilo, Hawaiʻi County, Hawaiʻi

The Hawaiʻi Public Utilities Commission held a public hearing at 6 p.m. on November 4 at Hawaiʻi Community College in Hilo to take public testimony on Hawaiian Electric's rate rebasing application. The hearing had originally been scheduled for September 24 but was postponed because of Tropical Storm Nolo; the commission announced the new date on October 21. The hearing was held in Building 389, Rooms 101 and 102, at 1175 Manono Street.
After the hearing, at 7 p.m. or upon the hearing's conclusion, the commission hosted a public informational meeting on Hawaiian Electric's service reliability and weather-related impacts. Hawaiian Electric is seeking an increase in annual revenues that, if approved, would affect electric rates for customers on Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi Island, Maui, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi. Written comments on Docket No. 2026-0162 may be submitted online, by email or by mail.
Rate rebasing is a routine part of utility regulation, in which the commission gathers input from customers and the community before deciding whether to approve a utility's revenue request. For Hilo residents, the hearing was a chance to speak directly about electric rates and service reliability; the commission has held a series of related informational meetings on Hawaiʻi Island.
