Jilin University Professor Wu Zhenwu Lectures at Michigan State on AI and Ancient Chinese Characters

On November 4, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., the Michigan State University Asian Studies Center hosted the 32nd Joseph and Lucy Lee Memorial Lecture on the third floor of the International Center, with Jilin University professor Wu Zhenwu as speaker. Wu holds a PhD in history and is a professor at Jilin University's School of Archaeology and Institute of Ancient Books; he serves as president of the Chinese Ancient Script Research Association and previously served as a vice president of Jilin University. The lecture introduced how artificial intelligence is being integrated into the study of ancient Chinese characters, focusing on related work and results, including using AI to integrate and apply research materials on ancient scripts. Hosted by the MSU Asian Studies Center with support from the Joseph Lee Fund for Visiting Scholars, the lecture was open to students, faculty and the public, aiming to foster dialogue between the study of ancient Chinese writing and modern technology and to offer an exchange opportunity for community members interested in Chinese language, history and culture.
