One-Mile Segment of State Route 16 in Kemper County Dedicated as Samuel Tisdale Memorial Highway

Mississippi Transportation Commission Chairman Willie Simmons joined local officials on November 4 at the Kemper County Courthouse Annex in De Kalb to dedicate a roughly one-mile segment of State Route 16 in Kemper County as the Samuel Tisdale, Sr. Memorial Highway. The naming follows Senate Bill 2643, passed in the Mississippi Legislature's 2026 session, which formally designated the segment of SR 16 as a memorial highway. Local officials and community representatives attended the ceremony. The state transportation department said signage for the named segment will proceed through the usual process and that information is available on its website. Memorial highway namings are a common way in Mississippi to honor people who contributed to their communities, and this one is intended to remember Tisdale's impact on Kemper County.
