Youth Mural Unveiled Nov. 4 in Burlington, Chittenden County, Vermont, Telling the Story of Clean Water and Lake Champlain Protection

A new mural created by young artists was unveiled in Burlington, Vermont, on November 4. Painted on the exterior of the Burlington Water Resources building, it tells the story of how clean water reaches the city and of efforts to protect Lake Champlain.
According to WAMC, the mural, titled Our Water, Our Future: A Story of Memory, Stewardship and Continuity, was created by eight artists aged 16 to 21 who took part in a paid public art apprenticeship program organized by Burlington City Arts and completed the work over four weeks. The mural depicts clean water flowing into Burlington and the work of protecting Lake Champlain, and was unveiled on November 4.
Burlington City Arts organized the unveiling. Through the four-week paid residency, the young artists took part in public art creation while being paid, and the finished work becomes part of the city's public space. Lake Champlain is an important water source and ecological landmark for Burlington, and the mural's water-protection theme echoes the community's long-standing concern for the lake's water quality and ecology. The unveiling was open to the public, and the mural, on the Burlington Water Resources building downtown, can be viewed by residents at any time.
