Brookfield Central Head Coach Joel Nellis Named Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week in Brookfield, Waukesha County, Wisconsin
The Green Bay Packers announced on November 4 that Brookfield Central High School head coach Joel Nellis has been named the Packers High School Coach of the Week, honoring his coaching performance in the 2026 high school football season.
According to the Packers' November 4 announcement, Nellis is in his eighth season coaching Brookfield Central and is leading the Lancers into Level 3 of the WIAA Division 2 playoffs, seeking a second trip to the Level 4 state semifinals under his leadership. The team finished the regular season 3-6 against one of the state's most challenging schedules and earned a playoff berth as a No. 7 seed; in the playoffs the team is in form, having beaten No. 2 seed Beaver Dam and No. 6 seed River Falls, and faces top-seeded New Richmond this week.
Nellis grew up in Madison, Wisconsin, graduated from Madison Memorial High School in 2001, where he played tight end, quarterback and safety under Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame coach Gary Kolpin, then went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, played tight end under legendary head coach Barry Alvarez, and graduated in 2006. The Packers High School Coach of the Week program honors one outstanding high school coach each week throughout the 2026 season, and Nellis is this week's recipient.
