Seattle Seahawks Rule Out QB Sam Darnold for Week 9 With Quad Injury; Drew Lock to Start

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · City · GSM News

Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald announced on November 4 that starting quarterback Sam Darnold will miss the Week 9 home game against the Arizona Cardinals with a quadriceps injury, and Drew Lock is expected to start. Darnold was hurt late in the November 2 loss to the Chicago Bears, a 34-17 defeat.

Macdonald said Darnold is week-to-week and will not be placed on injured reserve, meaning he will not be forced to miss four games and could return in Week 10. Through seven games this season, Darnold has completed 127 of 211 passes for 1,478 yards, with 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Lock has already started twice this season, including a Week 2 game against Arizona in which he threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-7 win.

Seattle is 4-4 and has lost three of its last four, making Sunday's game against the Cardinals important for the wild-card race. Third-string quarterback Jalen Milroe will also prepare in case Lock's elbow issue flares up. The team will keep evaluating Darnold's recovery in the coming days.
