Philadelphia Unveils Layouts for Three Finalist Sites for a Permanent Intercity Bus Station; Public Open House Held November 4

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · City · GSM News

The City of Philadelphia on November 4 released layout plans for three finalist sites for a permanent intercity bus station and held a public open house that evening at the Independence Visitor Center. It is the clearest step yet in the city's search for a permanent station since the Greyhound terminal closed at the end of June 2023; the old Filbert Street station reopened in May this year as an interim terminal, but it is not a permanent solution.

The three sites are 30th and Arch streets, next to the Amtrak station and Interstate 76; 15th and Vine streets; and 8th and Arch streets. The City Planning Commission's open house ran from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Independence Visitor Center, with no advance registration required, and the materials were to be posted on the project documents page afterward.

A city survey of nearly 1,800 people found 30th and Arch the favorite, with 65 percent support. The city has published no cost, funding plan or completion date for any option, and no related bill has appeared in City Council. Operating costs would be covered by the intercity bus fee that Council passed 17-0 in December 2025, collected through camera enforcement, described as the first system of its kind in the United States.

Philadelphia's intercity bus station question has dragged on for years since the old Greyhound station closed. The city says public comment is an important step before a final site is chosen, but any final plan still requires funding and legislative action.
