Follow-Up: Avalon Five Corners Overnight Closure on November 5, With Second Half of Intersection Closed Daytime November 5-6

AVALON, California - The City of Avalon, on Santa Catalina Island in Los Angeles County, California, has issued the latest schedule for paving at the Five Corners intersection: paving work for the Five Corners Site Improvement Project is underway, and to allow traffic to move through the intersection, the work is being completed in two halves.
Under the city's October 29 project status update, on November 5 the lower segment of Tremont Avenue between Descanso and Catalina Avenue will remain closed overnight, as will the Five Corners Intersection at Country Club Road, Tremont Avenue, Sumner Avenue, and a portion of Avalon Canyon Road, with alternate routes available. The city's project page adds that once the first half reopens on November 5, the other half of the intersection will be closed on November 5 and 6 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
To access Country Club Drive, vehicles must use Metropole Avenue to the upper segment of Tremont Avenue to Banning Drive; the upper segment of Tremont Avenue is accessible by the same detour route.
The city warned that vehicular traffic will be subject to significant delays during this time, while alternative transportation modes such as walking and biking will have less restriction. The schedule is dynamic due to barge operations during wind events as well as wet, cold weather conditions on the island.
GSM previously reported that paving at Five Corners had been extended to November 6; this notice gives the specific closure and detour arrangements for November 5-6.
