Viral Jayson Tatum Sanitizer Video Was From Halftime, Not After the Loss

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · Society · GSM News

A video of Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum knocking over a hand sanitizer dispenser spread widely on X, where the account BrickCenter posted it on November 3 saying Tatum was angry after losing to the Rockets, in a post approaching one million views, according to NESN. But after checking the game broadcast, NESN reported that the moment happened at halftime, not after the final buzzer.

The incident came during the Celtics' game against the Rockets at Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, on the night of November 2. Late in the first half, Tatum drove to the basket, missed a layup and ended up sprawled on the floor, believing he should have drawn a foul that was not called. Celtics announcer Drew Carter said on the broadcast at the time that Tatum was frustrated by the lack of a whistle but would head to the locker room without protesting. On his way there, Tatum knocked over the dispenser, with Houston leading 57-50 at the half.

The video also shows teammate Baylor Scheierman going over to pick the stand back up, according to the caption on HoopsHype's repost of the clip. By the final buzzer, Tatum appeared relaxed and was seen exchanging pleasantries with several Rockets players.

Boston went on to lose 109-93, ending a five-game winning streak. Tatum finished with 19 points, nine assists and six rebounds, but shot 5-for-16 from the field, 1-for-7 from three-point range, and committed five turnovers. In other words, the viral post presented a halftime moment as a postgame outburst, and the timing does not match.
