Wang Yi Hosts Cambodian and Thai Foreign Ministers for Tea in Beijing to Discuss Confidence-Building Measures

Beijing — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi hosted Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow for tea in Beijing on November 4, where the three discussed confidence-building measures between Cambodia and Thailand, bilateral cooperation and regional stability. The tea meeting took place on the sidelines of the 11th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation foreign ministers' meeting, which Wang and Sihasak co-chaired.
According to China's Foreign Ministry, Cambodia's foreign minister thanked China for the invitation. The prime ministers of Cambodia and Thailand had agreed a list of confidence-building measures when they met in Cebu, the Philippines, on May 7, including de-escalation through border committees and the joint boundary commission, avoiding provocative statements and closer people-to-people ties through friendship associations, with their foreign ministers tasked to follow up. Cambodia's Foreign Ministry said the boundary commission's third meeting is scheduled in Kuala Lumpur from November 24 to 27.
On November 3, Wang met officials from Thailand, Laos and Myanmar separately in Beijing, saying China supported Myanmar's political reconciliation and that China and Thailand should step up joint efforts against online gambling and telecom fraud. The trilateral tea was a joint exchange between the two Southeast Asian ministers and China during the Lancang-Mekong meeting; some items on the May list, such as the agreed return of the deputy heads of the two embassies, had yet to be fully implemented.
