Thursday, November 5, 2026 · States · GSM News

Oklahoma Governor-Elect Mike Mazzei announced in Oklahoma City on November 4 that his brother, Dan Mazzei, will chair his transition team. Oklahoma City, the state capital, is in Oklahoma County. Mazzei, a Republican, defeated Democrat Cyndi Munson and three independents in the November 3 election with nearly 52 percent of the vote to Munson's nearly 46 percent, according to the Oklahoma State Election Board, and will be sworn in as the state's 29th governor on January 11.

Dan Mazzei, a structural engineer who has worked on political campaigns, will lead efforts to assemble the incoming administration. Mike Mazzei said he looks forward to working with Governor Kevin Stitt, who is in the final months of his second term and cannot run again, on a smooth transition. Mazzei, who served as budget secretary under Stitt, said he would make personnel announcements fairly soon but named no cabinet members yet.

Mazzei said he will work with House Speaker Kyle Hilbert and Senate Pro Tem Lonnie Paxton on priorities for an effective first 100 days. He also expects to create an office of State Finance and Fiscal Responsibility to address funding issues involving state agencies, including food stamps and Medicaid, and plans to require state agencies to provide financial reports every 90 days comparing budgeted to actual expenses.

A financial planner from Tulsa, Mazzei loaned his campaign a record $13 million. He encouraged interested Oklahomans to submit resumes through his campaign website.
