Florida Governor Appoints Jeff Harrington as Permanent Pasco County Sheriff One Day After Interim Start

Thursday, November 5, 2026 · States · GSM News

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on November 4 appointed Jeff Harrington as the permanent sheriff of Pasco County. Harrington had taken over in an interim capacity just one day earlier, and the appointment made permanent the leadership of the Gulf Coast county, whose county seat is Dade City.

The change began when former Sheriff Chris Nocco officially resigned on the eve of Election Day. Nocco, who led the Pasco Sheriff's Office for 15 years, stepped down to run for the District 21 state Senate seat, which he won. Following the resignation, the chief judge of the Sixth Judicial Circuit appointed Harrington, Nocco's chief of staff, as interim sheriff on Tuesday.

Harrington brings a law enforcement background spanning more than 30 years, including 14 years of service within the Pasco Sheriff's Office, according to officials. The governor's office said the permanent appointment cements leadership at the agency.

Harrington is scheduled to hold a news conference at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, to address the community and outline his plans for the agency, his first public address as permanent sheriff.
