Florida Governor Appoints Former State Senator Doug Broxson to Triumph Gulf Coast Board Overseeing $1.5 Billion BP Settlement

Thursday, November 5, 2026 · States · GSM News

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed former state Senator Doug Broxson to the Triumph Gulf Coast Board of Directors. Broxson lives in Gulf Breeze, in Santa Rosa County, and the appointment was reported on November 4.

Triumph Gulf Coast is charged with distributing $1.5 billion recovered from BP in the legal settlement following the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The funds go to eight Florida Panhandle counties considered disproportionately affected by the spill and are intended to stimulate economic development.

Broxson joins former Congressman Matt Gaetz and four others as 2026 appointees to the board, whose first terms will all expire in 2030. Board Chair Charles Rigdon of Destin is the only current member who has served more than a year. Other members include Lauren Costin of Port St. Joe and Gaetz of Niceville, appointed by House Speaker Daniel Perez; Chris Cramer of Panama City, appointed by Senate President Ben Albritton; and Sandy Sims of Niceville, appointed by Attorney General James Uthmeier. One remaining seat will be filled by an appointment from the Senate president.

Broxson served in the Florida House from 2010 to 2016 and in the state Senate from 2016 to 2024. He also serves on the Board of Governors for the State University System.
