The Los Angeles Kings routed the San Jose Sharks 7-2 on Wednesday night at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, as Adrian Kempe returned from a one-game injury absence to record his fifth career NHL hat trick plus an assist, and Artemi Panarin added four assists.
Kempe opened the scoring on a breakaway wrist shot from the slot just 1:23 into the game, then buried a one-timer from the right circle off Erik Gustafsson's pass at 16:09. Quinton Byfield's power-play goal at 18:38 gave Los Angeles a 3-0 first-period lead; the Kings finished 3-for-5 on the power play.
Macklin Celebrini ended a six-game goal drought with a power-play goal at 5:07 of the second to cut it to 3-1, but Erik Haula restored the cushion with a backhand at 11:10 and Kempe completed the hat trick at 15:51 off Alex Laferriere's cross-slot pass, tying Charlie Simmer and Jimmy Carson for ninth in Kings history.
Joel Armia and Byfield scored in the third around Ivar Stenberg's power-play goal for San Jose. Darcy Kuemper made 30 saves for Los Angeles; Yaroslav Askarov stopped 20 of 27 for the Sharks, who have lost three straight and five of six.
