USCCB Revenue Falls by Half as Federal Refugee Funding Ends

Thursday, November 5, 2026 · Faith · GSM News

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has seen its revenue fall from about $303 million in 2024 to $207 million in 2025, with about $135 million projected for 2026, a drop of more than half from its peak, according to the conference's financial reporting as covered by The Pillar.

The main cause is the end of federal refugee funding: the State Department formally notified the conference at the end of February 2025 that it was terminating its refugee resettlement and assistance contracts.

The bishops' conference does not itself deliver services to migrants and refugees; it acts as a federal grantee and intermediary, distributing funds to local Catholic organizations that carry out resettlement work. With the contracts gone, the conference faces a financial turning point and must restructure its revenue. (Source: U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops)
