Russell Brand Found Guilty of Rape and Sexual Assault in London Trial; Sentencing Set for November 9

Thursday, November 5, 2026 · Entertainment · GSM News

British comedian and actor Russell Brand was found guilty on November 5 at London's Southwark Crown Court of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault. The jury acquitted him of two other counts of rape and one count of attempted indecent assault. Brand, 51, was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on Monday, November 9.

The trial judge, Mr Justice Joel Bennathan, told Brand that he had been convicted of a number of offences including rape and that "the consequence of that is inevitably a significant custodial term," and refused to let him remain on bail ahead of sentencing. Prosecutors had described Brand, who starred in "Get Him to the Greek" and "Arthur," as a ruthless, calculating sexual predator.

The charges involved allegations from six women spanning 1999 to 2009; the convictions relate to four women and incidents between 2004 and 2009. The trial began on October 12 and lasted more than three weeks. Brand had denied all seven charges, saying the incidents had either been consensual, reinvented or re-imagined.

Brand, once one of Britain's most high-profile broadcasters and the former husband of U.S. singer Katy Perry, was first accused in a 2023 joint media investigation, after which police investigated and prosecutors brought charges. After the verdicts, the Metropolitan Police said an investigation into rape allegations by two further women remains open and files have been sent to prosecutors.

In England and Wales, rape carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Brand will learn his sentence on November 9.
