Texas Governor-Elect Hinojosa Asks State to Pause Talks on Selling About 1,300 Acres of Public Land to SpaceX

Thursday, November 5, 2026 · Technology · GSM News

Austin, Texas — Texas Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa said at her first news conference on November 5 that she had phoned the head of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and asked the agency to take no action during the transition on a possible sale of public land to SpaceX, Bloomberg and other outlets reported.

The land in question covers about 1,300 acres in Cameron County, including part of Boca Chica State Park, which SpaceX reportedly wants to buy to expand its adjacent Starbase rocket facility. The Parks and Wildlife Commission had been due to discuss the matter on November 5; Hinojosa said the agenda item was removed at her request. The department had previously said the commission was not considering a sale of the park property at its November meeting. Her request does not legally bind the commission.

Asked on CNN about the risk that Elon Musk could move his companies out of Texas, Hinojosa said selling the beach to Musk was almost unimaginable and unacceptable, while adding that Texas could have a strong working relationship with Musk's companies, but on Texas's terms. GSM reported her data-center and Musk positions on November 5; this story follows up on the specific land-sale talks. (Source: Bloomberg)
