CoreWeave Writes to Texas Governor-Elect Hinojosa Seeking Data Center Cooperation, Pledges to Fund Grid Infrastructure

Texas, United States — CoreWeave co-founder and chief executive Michael Intrator wrote on November 7 to Texas Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa, congratulating her on her election victory and seeking to work with her incoming administration on the company's current and future data center projects in the state, Bloomberg reported. The two-page letter calls for a durable set of standards to govern data center development.
Intrator wrote that CoreWeave strongly supports Hinojosa's stated principles: communities should have a voice in data center development, households should not be left paying for new infrastructure, and development should protect local water, power and quality of life. He pledged that the company funds the infrastructure required to connect its facilities to the grid, including substations and transmission upgrades, rather than passing those costs to neighbouring households, and that new capacity will use closed-loop liquid cooling systems designed to limit water consumption. The letter also welcomed Hinojosa's clarification that already-permitted data center projects will be allowed to be completed.
The letter names six places in Texas where CoreWeave says it has active facilities: Austin, Denton, Dickens County, Plano, Richardson and Round Rock. CoreWeave says it operated 51 data centers with more than 1.5 gigawatts of active power as of June 30, and about 4.2 gigawatts of contracted power capacity as of August 11; it is due to report third-quarter results on November 10.
Hinojosa campaigned on pausing new data center development until protections for residents are established in law. GSM reported her position on November 5; this story records the industry response. (Source: Bloomberg)
