Zelenskyy Appeals to Latin American Nations in Madrid With Specific Energy-Equipment Requests: Transformers, Cables and Generators

Madrid — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed to the Ibero-American Summit in Madrid on November 5 to help his country rebuild and maintain its war-damaged energy infrastructure, calling for urgent supplies of transformers, cables, generators and other electrical equipment, Reuters reported.
Addressing leaders gathered in Madrid, Zelenskyy said Russia had damaged every power plant in the country through missile and drone attacks, forcing energy workers to carry out constant repairs to prevent a nationwide blackout. His requests were specific: transformers from Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Colombia; cables from Chile; and electrical equipment and generators from Spain. He urged governments to help connect Kyiv with companies able to provide compatible equipment quickly.
Zelenskyy had travelled unexpectedly to Spain for the summit and for top-level talks on boosting Kyiv's air defences; after meeting Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez he announced a new 437-million-euro Spanish military aid package. With winter approaching, Kyiv regards the survival of its energy system under renewed strikes as a matter of both civilian welfare and the course of the war.
