Experimental Video Exhibition Screens in Philadelphia on November 7 With Nine Short Films at Twelve Gates Arts

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania — The eighth juried experimental video exhibition will screen on November 7 at Twelve Gates Arts in Philadelphia's Old City (106 North 2nd St), from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with an additional screening and post-screening conversation on November 11 from 6 to 8 p.m.
The program is presented jointly by the gallery and the Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival (PAAFF). Both screenings show all nine short films, so audiences can see the full program at either one. According to Daily Bao, the screenings are free and advance registration is required.
The participating artists come from South Asia, Southwest Asia and North Africa, as well as the diaspora of descendants of Indian indentured laborers, and the works are all short experimental videos made for gallery spaces rather than feature films. A conversation with the filmmakers will follow, moderated by Sweta Regunathan, director of the Visual Studies program at Haverford College.
Twelve Gates Arts is in Old City, a few minutes' drive from Chinatown, and is an important venue for Asian art events in Philadelphia. The exhibition provides a public screening platform for the niche form of experimental video and brings the voices of Asian and North African artists into a downtown Philadelphia gallery space.
