Lionsgate's The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping opens in North American theaters and IMAX on November 20. According to Deadline, presales have set a post-pandemic record for Lionsgate, running ahead of both Wicked and Michael at the same point in the sales cycle, and the projected domestic opening has climbed to $80 million or more, with some trackers putting the range at $80 million to $100 million.

Adapted from Suzanne Collins's bestselling novel, the film is set 24 years before the original story, as 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy is selected for the 50th Hunger Games, the Second Quarter Quell, with twice the usual number of tributes. The novel sold more than 1.5 million copies worldwide in its first week, the biggest debut for any title in the series.

Francis Lawrence directs from a screenplay by Billy Ray. Joseph Zada stars as the young Haymitch, with Whitney Peak as his girlfriend Lenore Dove Baird, alongside Jesse Plemons, Ralph Fiennes, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning and Maya Hawke. The reported production budget is between $170 million and $200 million. The film premiered in London on October 28, the day tickets went on sale. This story carries Lionsgate's official second trailer.
