Follow-Up: New Wave of Bomb Threats Hits European Flights: Four Aircraft Over France Divert and Land Safely

Paris — Four more aircraft flying over French territory received bomb threats on Friday, November 6, and all landed safely, the French Prime Minister's office said. Bomb disposal units are carrying out security checks on the planes, and an investigation is under way to determine the source of the alerts, which are affecting the whole of Europe. According to a source familiar with the matter, three of the aircraft landed at Paris Orly Airport and the fourth at Bordeaux; all four had originally been overflights, passing over France on their way to other destinations.
It is the third wave of bomb threats against European flights this week. On Thursday, an Aer Lingus flight from Dublin to Rome was diverted to Évreux air base in northern France after a bomb threat; French fighter jets were scrambled to escort the aircraft, which was carrying 151 passengers and six crew.
Friday's alerts were not limited to France: Czech police registered bomb threats against multiple flights departing from and arriving at Prague Airport, a Wizz Air flight from Prague to Rome was diverted to Venice, two flights bound for Sofia, Bulgaria, were also threatened, and a Ryanair flight from Rome triggered a security operation after landing in Lisbon. Spain's foreign minister said the pattern bore the hallmarks of a coordinated 'hybrid' attack.
Since the first wave on Tuesday, dozens of flights across Europe have been targeted. No explosive device has been found, and no one has claimed responsibility. GSM previously reported that European flights were hit by two earlier waves of threats on November 3 and 5, and that the European Union has activated an aviation-security information-sharing mechanism in response.
