Fiona Ma Issues Thank-You Letter as Lieutenant Governor-Elect: 5.87 Million Votes, All 58 Counties Next

California State Treasurer Fiona Ma on November 6 published an open thank-you letter to the people of California, thanking voters for electing her the state's next lieutenant governor. She said she would carry the same community-first approach from her campaign into office, visiting all 58 counties and serving Californians of every background. She takes office in January 2027 as California's first Asian American elected lieutenant governor.
According to figures released in the letter, Ma had received 5,874,272 votes as of the letter's release, or 64.7% of the votes reported at that point. Ballot counting is still under way and the figures will be updated as official counting continues; the Secretary of State is scheduled to certify the results on December 11.
Ma wrote that her campaign had collected community questionnaires from hundreds of residents, covering the cost of living, housing, education, economic opportunity, public safety and the future of their communities. As lieutenant governor, she said, she will keep a direct line to residents, travel to all 58 counties, and work to turn what she hears at the grassroots into concrete action.
The letter listed the breadth of her coalition: more than 50 labor unions, more than 600 elected officials, nearly every member of the California Legislature, and organizations representing educators, nurses, firefighters, law enforcement, working families, small businesses and diverse communities. She gave special thanks to volunteers, her campaign team, community leaders and every supporter who shared a story, hosted an event or gave time and resources, and said she would answer voters' trust with day-to-day work.
Ma closed by saying that California's greatest strength has always been its people, signing off with her campaign's refrain: "58 Counties, 1 California. Stronger Together."
Ma, 60, was born in New York to Chinese immigrant parents. A certified public accountant since 1992, she has served as California State Treasurer since 2019. The Associated Press called the lieutenant governor's race for her on election night, November 3; she will succeed incumbent Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, whose term is ending.
