Trump Speaks With Qatar's Emir Tamim on De-escalation, Push for Comprehensive Agreement

Friday, November 6, 2026 · World · GSM News

Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani received a telephone call on Friday from U.S. President Donald Trump, and the two discussed diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region, the Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported on November 6.

QNA said the two leaders reviewed the strategic relations between their countries and ways to strengthen them, and discussed the latest regional developments, particularly the ongoing diplomatic efforts to ease tensions. They also discussed the latest international efforts, notably the initiatives led by Qatar, to bridge the gaps between the parties concerned and support the negotiation process, paving the way for a comprehensive agreement that resolves the crisis and ensures security and stability in the region.

In a statement, the Emiri Diwan said Tamim stressed the importance of continuing dialogue and resolving disputes through negotiation, preventing further escalation in the region, and safeguarding freedom of maritime navigation and the security of energy supplies. The statement did not describe Trump's response in detail.

The call came as diplomacy surrounding the war between the United States and Iran gathered pace. A day earlier, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Tehran has sent a nuclear proposal to Washington through Qatar, according to reports, and the White House is reviewing it; Trump told reporters on Thursday, after meeting his national security advisers, that a decision on further military action against Iran would come soon.
