Foreign Ministry on China-Africa Cooperation: Trade Topped $310 Billion in First Nine Months, Zero Tariffs for 53 African Countries

BEIJING — Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a regular press conference on November 6, 2026, that China-Africa trade exceeded $310 billion in the first nine months of this year, up 22 percent year on year. He noted that since May 1 this year, China has fully implemented zero-tariff treatment for 53 African countries with diplomatic ties, making it easier for African specialty products to enter the Chinese market.

Guo made the remarks in response to a question about a Forbes article comparing Chinese and U.S. policies toward Africa and an Afrobarometer survey showing 62 percent of African respondents view China's influence positively. He said China and African countries are a natural community with a shared future, and that China follows the principle of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith in supporting Africa's development and self-reliance.

Guo said the zero-tariff measure has effectively lowered trade costs, bringing African products such as avocados, coffee beans, pecans and shea butter into Chinese households and benefiting more African small businesses and farmers.

He added that no matter how the international situation changes, China will always be Africa's most trustworthy and reliable partner, and high-quality China-Africa cooperation will continue to help both sides move toward modernization together. (Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China)
