NFL Commissioner Goodell and Bears Executives Meet Illinois Lawmakers on Stadium Legislation

Friday, November 6, 2026 · Sports · GSM News

In Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell met earlier this week with Illinois legislative leaders in Chicago, alongside Chicago Bears President Kevin Warren and Chairman George McCaskey, to discuss stadium authority legislation tied directly to the Bears' new stadium. NFL reporter Ian Rapoport disclosed the meeting on November 6.

Governor J.B. Pritzker said the bill is expected to receive hearings during the fall veto session beginning November 17, with a vote in the first week of December. The Bears currently play at Soldier Field on Chicago's downtown lakefront; the new stadium plan would move the team to suburban Arlington Heights, and its progress depends on state legislation on taxes and infrastructure.

The Bears said the team is also continuing due diligence in parallel on two sites in Hammond, Indiana. Goodell's personal attendance signals the league's direct involvement in the Bears' push for state-level legislative cooperation, which remains a key step in the team's suburban stadium plan.
