Notre Dame Beats No. 1 Miami 31-24: CJ Carr Throws for 319 Yards and Three Touchdowns as Hurricanes Suffer First Loss

The University of Notre Dame beat No. 1 Miami 31-24 on Saturday night, November 7, at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana, handing the Hurricanes their first loss of the season and giving the Fighting Irish their first win over an AP No. 1 team since 2020.
Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr completed 29 of 40 passes for 319 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. He connected with Micah Gilbert and Jordan Faison for scores in the second quarter as Notre Dame led 17-3 at halftime, then found Gilbert again on a 20-yard touchdown early in the third quarter to make it 24-3.
Miami rallied behind quarterback Darian Mensah, who completed 24 of 43 passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns. A one-yard touchdown run by Nolan James Jr. put Notre Dame ahead 31-17 in the fourth quarter before Miami cut it to 31-24. With 3:36 left, Mensah's apparent game-tying touchdown pass to Elija Lofton was ruled an incomplete catch, and Miami's final desperation play ended in a fumble recovered by Notre Dame's Jaiden Ausberry.
Miami played without top receiver Malachi Toney, who was sidelined with an ankle injury. Notre Dame improved to 8-1 with its 10th win over an AP No. 1 team and head coach Marcus Freeman's first victory over a top-ranked opponent; Miami fell to 8-1.
