Hawaii Designates 25 Opportunity Zones 2.0 Tracts, Including Lahaina's Front Street

Hawaii Governor Josh Green announced on November 5 that the state has designated 25 census tracts under the federal Opportunity Zones 2.0 programme: 19 on Oahu, four on Hawaii Island and two on Maui, including the census tract covering Lahaina's Front Street. The Opportunity Zones programme uses tax incentives to steer private capital into economically distressed communities, supporting housing, commercial and infrastructure projects.
The governor's office said the full list and map of designations have been published and can be checked on the federal Community Development Financial Institutions Fund website. Lahaina's inclusion means rebuilding in the area devastated by the 2023 wildfires could attract more private investment. The release did not give expected investment figures for each tract or a timetable for projects.
