New Orleans Archdiocese Adds 27 Clergy to Abuse List Under $300 Million Bankruptcy Settlement

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans updated its list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse on November 6, adding 27 names. The update is part of the archdiocese's $300 million bankruptcy settlement involving hundreds of abuse survivors. In a letter to the faithful, Archbishop James Checchio said updating the list fulfils a transparency commitment made in the settlement, and stressed that no clergyman with a credible accusation remains in ministry in the archdiocese.
According to the archdiocese, all of those newly added have died. The full updated list has been published through the archdiocese's official channels. The archdiocese first published its list of credibly accused clergy in 2019 and has updated it since.
