Pattaya — Officers from Thailand's Provincial Police Region 2 raided a room at The Trust Condominium in central Pattaya on November 6 under a search warrant issued by the Pattaya Provincial Court, breaking up a suspected cross-border online scam network and arresting eight people — five Thai nationals and three Chinese nationals. Police said the group is linked to fraud cases across Thailand with combined losses exceeding 100 million baht.

The operation was ordered by Major General Kiatthasak Sa Thongoi, commander of the Region 2 investigation division, and the search was led by Colonel Theerasak Osathanon of the Region 2 Anti-Cyber Scam Centre (ACSC). Police seized 22 bank passbooks, 35 ATM cards, 28 SIM cards, 19 mobile phones and three laptop computers, and also found 2.71 grams of crystal methamphetamine.

Investigators said enquiries had connected the group to several public fraud complaints nationwide, and alleged that Thai and foreign individuals had bought and sold bank accounts and ATM cards used to receive and move suspected criminal proceeds. Police said they had also found indications that scam money had been converted into digital assets and sent through multiple wallets and platforms, including Binance, Bitkub, Maxbit and imToken, in an apparent effort to conceal the movement of funds; the investigation is continuing to identify others who may be involved.

The eight suspects have initially been charged with jointly procuring, opening or allowing others to use bank deposit accounts for criminal purposes, along with charges relating to possession and use of crystal methamphetamine, and were handed to Pattaya City Police Station for legal proceedings. The charges remain allegations to be tested in court, and police did not release the suspects' names or individual roles. (Source: Thailand Provincial Police Region 2)
