Prince Harry's Opening Line Goes Viral in London: 'All I Can See Is Phones,' He Tells a Filming Audience With a Smile

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, delivered a keynote speech at the 25th annual Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards in London on November 4, and a joke in his opening seconds was filmed and spread widely on social media. In the clip, Harry pauses as he takes the stage, puts one hand on his hip and tells the audience with a smile: "All I can see is phones."

According to PEOPLE and Page Six, the ceremony was held in the Painted Hall of the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, London, before some 500 travel-industry guests. Harry was the evening's surprise guest, speaking on behalf of Travalyst, the nonprofit sustainable-travel initiative he founded in 2019. Gesturing at the rows of phones pointed at him, he added, "You guys, literally he just talked about it" — a nod to the previous speaker, who had just raised the same point — as the audience laughed and Harry kept smiling.

After the joke, Harry returned to his speech. "I founded Travalyst in 2019 because I believe that an industry built on extraordinary places of our world has both a responsibility and a business imperative to protect it," he said. He also announced that Wanderlust magazine had joined Travalyst's affiliate network, and he posed with representatives of Germany, winner of the Most Desirable Country for Sustainability award.

It was not Harry's first joke about phones. According to Page Six, in May 2024, as he left the Invictus Games Foundation's 10th-anniversary service at St. Paul's Cathedral in London, he teased a fan holding up two phones for a selfie: "You've got two cameras? How did you end up with two cameras?"

Harry's week has been a busy one. PEOPLE reported that he was spotted at the Lotte New York Palace hotel in Manhattan on November 2 for a series of meetings, two days before returning to London for the speech. He and his wife Meghan are next scheduled to travel to Brussels, Belgium, on November 10, for the unveiling of the Lost Screen Memorial and remarks on protecting children online. The viral clip came from an attendee's video posted on X, and it spread further on November 6 as Page Six, HELLO! and PEOPLE, among others, reported the moment.
