Saturday, November 7, 2026 · Cities · GSM News

SAN FRANCISCO, San Francisco County, California - The latest count released by the San Francisco Department of Elections at 4 p.m. on Friday, November 6, showed Proposition B, which would create a city-owned public bank, moving into the lead with 146,415 votes in favor, or 51.65 percent, against 137,078 votes, or 48.35 percent, a margin of 9,337 votes. In the Wednesday, November 4 count, Proposition B had trailed by 144 votes, 95,222 to 95,366; it moved ahead by 5,499 votes in the November 5 count, and the November 6 count widened the lead further. The department said about 37,600 ballots remain to be counted citywide, roughly 27,600 of them mail ballots and about 10,000 provisional ballots, so the result is not yet final. The next update is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, and the department has up to 30 days to certify the election. Proposition B would amend the city charter to authorize a municipal finance corporation and a nonprofit public bank. An August 20 statement by City Controller Greg Wagner noted that the amendment itself would not directly increase government spending, but that if the city fully pursued the bank, a 2023 task force estimated the cost at about $310 million to $460 million over eight years.
