Three Killed, One Hospitalized as CHP Pursuit Ends in Crash on I-10 in Baldwin Park

Baldwin Park — At about 4:10 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers tried to stop a red 2011 Toyota Corolla traveling westbound on Interstate 10 in Baldwin Park, in Los Angeles County, California. The driver failed to yield and sped away. Exiting at Francisquito Avenue, the car failed to negotiate a curve on the off-ramp and crashed into a concrete wall.
According to the CHP news release, three of the car's four occupants died and one was hospitalized with major injuries. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Two 20-year-old men were taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center and Los Angeles General Medical Center; one of them later died, while the other remains hospitalized with major injuries. A woman taken to Los Angeles General Medical Center has also since died. Their names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
A SigAlert was issued for the westbound I-10 Francisquito Avenue off-ramp, which was closed until further notice. The CHP Southern Division Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) and Critical Incident Investigation Team (CIIT) are investigating the crash, including why the driver was traveling at high speed and whether alcohol or drugs were involved; toxicology results have not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
Correction: An earlier version of this story, based on a single local source, reported that all four occupants had died. According to the California Highway Patrol's official news release, three people died and one person was hospitalized with major injuries.
