Thailand's Anutin Meets Google Executive on More Data Centre Investment: Proposes AI One-Stop Permits, Cites Malaysia-Level Scale

Saturday, November 7, 2026 · World · GSM News

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul met Alphabet and Google President and Chief Investment Officer Ruth Porat at Government House in Bangkok on November 5, discussing further Google data centre investment in Thailand, rules on water and electricity use for data centres, and artificial intelligence training. Anutin proposed an AI-powered one-stop permit service for data centres, dubbed Thailand FastPass, to streamline processes for investors.

Speaking on November 7, Anutin said Google stands ready to invest in Thailand at a level no lower than in Malaysia. Google announced a US$15 billion investment in Malaysia on November 4 for 2027 and 2028. Anutin put Google's existing investment in Thailand at about US$6 billion, or more than 200 billion baht.

Notably, the Google investment documented by Thailand's Board of Investment is the US$1 billion data centre and cloud region announced in September 2024, and what exactly the US$6 billion figure covers across subsidiaries and ecosystem spending is unclear. The size of any additional investment awaits formal announcement by Google and the Thai government.
