Follow-Up: Death Toll in Komyshuvakha Aid-Point Bombing Rises to 55 as Recovery Enters Sixth Day

KYIV, Ukraine — Recovery work in the village of Komyshuvakha in southern Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region entered its sixth day on Saturday. Emergency services said they had recovered nine more bodies in the previous 24 hours, bringing the death toll from the Nov. 2 Russian bombing of a humanitarian aid distribution point to 55 early on Saturday, with dozens of people still missing. GSM's previous follow-up on Nov. 5 put the toll at 43; crews have continued clearing the rubble and identifying bodies since then.
The attack took place on Monday, Nov. 2, when multiple Russian guided bombs slammed into a former school building and a nearby shelter as residents waited to receive humanitarian aid. Ukraine's National Police has said the strikes included a three-ton FAB glide bomb. Village resident Mykola Krasnov, 72, said he was still looking for his wife. He told The Associated Press: 'She went to get humanitarian aid, and a three-ton bomb was dropped there. Where is she? She didn't come home, and they didn't find her body there. She isn't in the morgue, and she isn't here alive.'
Komyshuvakha is located near the front line in the Zaporizhzhia region. Russia's Ministry of Defense has said the strike targeted Ukrainian military units around Komyshuvakha and two other settlements; Moscow and Kyiv both deny deliberately targeting civilians. Reuters has described the bombing as one of this year's deadliest attacks on civilians.
