About 1,200 Chicago Parking Workers Reach a New Five-Year Deal, Ending a Four-Day Strike

CHICAGO, Illinois — About 1,200 parking workers in the Chicago area reached a new five-year contract on November 7, ending a four-day strike. Teamsters Local 727 said bargaining ran from November 5 into the evening of November 6 before the deal was struck on the 7th. The roughly 1,200 workers staff commercial garages and surface lots across the Chicago area, including around airports and hospitals. They struck after voting down the Chicago Parking Association's offer on Tuesday, a walkout that threatened parking service at downtown garages, lots, airports and hospitals. The strike lasted four days, from Tuesday to Saturday's agreement, with union negotiators bargaining from Thursday through Friday evening. The union had been preparing to extend picket lines to Soldier Field — the Bears host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on November 8, and the stadium's garages are operated by SP+ Metropolis. The settlement restores normal game-day parking for Sunday. The union did not immediately release the new contract's terms.
