CASSIA COUNTY, Idaho — Idaho State Police reported that a fatal crash at about 5:50 a.m. on November 7 on U.S. Highway 30 near milepost 247 outside Murtaugh killed one person and injured three. Police said a 2018 Hyundai Elantra driven by a 23-year-old man with a 21-year-old male passenger, both from Burley, was traveling eastbound when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a westbound 2002 Mazda Tribute driven by a 58-year-old woman with a 23-year-old female passenger, also both from Burley. A westbound 2013 Ford Edge then struck debris from the crash. The Mazda's driver died at the scene; her passenger was taken by ground ambulance to a local hospital, and both men in the Hyundai were flown to a hospital by air ambulance. The Ford's driver was not injured. Police said all three drivers wore seat belts; the Mazda's passenger did not, and belt use by the Hyundai's passenger is unknown. All lanes were blocked for about six hours while crews assisted, investigated and cleared the scene. The Cassia County Sheriff's Office, responders from Cassia and Minidoka counties, Burley Fire and two air-ambulance services assisted. The crash remains under investigation by ISP District 4.
