Lebanon TPS Expires November 27: Work Permits Are Auto-Extended Only Through November 27, and No DHS Decision for the Next Period Has Been Published After the September 28 Statutory Deadline

Sunday, November 8, 2026 · Society · GSM News

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) lists Lebanon's current Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation as running through November 27, 2026. That date comes from an automatic extension: the designation was set to expire on May 27, 2026, and because the Secretary of Homeland Security did not determine by the March 28, 2026 statutory deadline whether Lebanon continues to meet the conditions for designation, the Department of Homeland Security automatically extended the designation for six months, from May 28, 2026 through November 27, 2026, in Federal Register notice 91 FR 32069. About 11,000 people were estimated to be eligible for Lebanon TPS when DHS made the designation.

For work authorization, USCIS automatically extended through November 27, 2026 the validity of Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) issued under the prior Lebanon TPS designation with a category of A12 or C19 and a Card Expires date of May 27, 2026. Beneficiaries presenting such an EAD do not need to show any other document, such as the Federal Register notice, to prove they qualify for the automatic extension. Individuals with a pending or approved TPS application may also qualify for certain public benefits and REAL ID driver's licenses and identification cards, and may show an A12 or C19 EAD or a copy of their Form I-797 notice for a current Form I-821, Application for Temporary Protected Status.

No decision for the next period has been published. Under the TPS statute, the Secretary must review and decide on an extension or termination at least 60 days before a designation expires, which set a September 28, 2026 decision deadline for this period; public tracker checks through late October found no new Federal Register notice, USCIS alert or DHS statement announcing a decision. Absent a new announcement, the current automatic extension covers only through November 27, and employers must complete Form I-9 reverification for affected workers before work begins on November 28. USCIS directs readers to its TPS Lebanon page for up-to-date information.
