Minnesota House Republicans Elect Harry Niska as Minority Leader

ST. PAUL, Minnesota — Minnesota House Republicans chose new leadership on November 6, electing Rep. Harry Niska as House minority leader and Rep. Jim Nash as deputy minority leader. Niska, from Ramsey, will lead the Republican caucus as Democrats retake control of the House. House Democrats have already selected their speaker-designate. The moves are part of the Minnesota Legislature's post-election reorganization after November 3, with both parties assembling leadership teams for the session that begins in January. Niska's caucus will serve in the minority as Democrats hold the governorship and both legislative chambers, and negotiations over the budget, taxes and public safety will test bipartisan cooperation in the coming session. The new session convenes in January, when Niska will first take part in agenda-setting as minority leader.
