Manhattan Chinatown Dumpling Crawl Held November 7: 12 Dumplings at Five Shops Judged for the Best Bite

NEW YORK — A dumpling crawl was held in Manhattan's Chinatown on Saturday, November 7, from noon to 2:30 p.m., with participants visiting five dumpling shops over two and a half hours to taste 12 kinds of dumplings and pick the best in Chinatown.
The crawl set out from the Columbus Park Pavilion in Chinatown, organized by the local curiosity community HobbyCon and led by Henry, a self-described dumpling master who planned the route. At each stop, participants took a few bites and scored the dumplings on a rating sheet; the winning shop will receive a certificate. Tickets covered all tastings at the five shops, several secret stops along the way, sauces and toppings, and small gifts from brand partners.
Organizers said the format is easy for Chinese and other Asian families: children can start with soup dumplings while parents work their way through potstickers, and it is a chance to walk Chinatown from the Broadway side to kitchens where dumplings are wrapped and steamed to order. Organizers noted that no vegetarian options could be arranged for this event, included common allergen and cross-contact advisories, and offered refunds up to seven days before the event.
