Wyoming Employment Down 505 Year over Year in Q1 While Total Wages Rose $233 Million

Sunday, November 8, 2026 · States · GSM News

CHEYENNE, Wyoming — Data released November 6 by the Research & Planning section of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services show total employment in the state fell by 505 jobs, or 0.2%, from first-quarter 2025 to first-quarter 2026, while total wages grew by $233 million over the same period. Despite slightly fewer jobs, the state's overall wage pool expanded, as rising pay levels offset the dip in headcount. The figures come from the department's Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages, published each quarter and covering jobs and pay across every industry — a key gauge of the labor market for state government and employers. The report was issued from Cheyenne, where the department is headquartered in the state capital. Industry-level detail will follow in subsequent releases for policymakers and employers.
