Corpus Christi Early Voting Breaks Records With About 78,200 Ballots

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Early voting in Nueces County for the 2026 midterms ended October 30 with record turnout. About 78,200 ballots had been cast as of the final day, representing 35.09 percent of roughly 223,000 eligible voters, according to the County Clerk's Office — above the roughly 61,500 ballots and 32.93 percent turnout of the 2018 midterms and ahead of 2022, the Corpus Christi Caller-Times reported.
Independent political and legal historian Bill Chriss said before the final numbers posted that surpassing 75,000 ballots would be "a very high watermark for an election where the president is not on the ballot." County Clerk Kara Sands noted that voters could cast ballots at any of the county's 20 vote centers.
Local experts credited competitive statewide races for governor and U.S. Senate, along with a closely watched city council election shaped by council divisions and the Inner Harbor desalination debate. Election Day is November 3.
