Trump Announces $200 Billion South Korean Energy Investment Plan for the U.S.

President Trump announced at the White House on Sept 30, alongside Commerce Secretary Lutnick, that South Korea's government will invest nearly $200 billion of sovereign funds in U.S. energy infrastructure — "one of the largest energy infrastructure investments in American history," creating tens of thousands of American jobs. The plan covers three projects: $120 billion for eight large nuclear reactors across Ohio, Tennessee, South Carolina and Kentucky; a $22.3 billion 6.4-gigawatt gas power plant in Encinal, Texas; and the long-planned Alaska LNG pipeline. Lutnick said the projects are fully financed by the Korean government "for the benefit of the United States," linked to the 15% tariff agreement. Seoul later cooled expectations: President Lee Jae-myung said participation in the Alaska LNG project depends on financial viability and legal compliance, with no final decision yet. The package is the first batch under the 2025 U.S.-Korea $350 billion trade agreement.
