Lula and Flavio Bolsonaro Face Off in First Runoff Debate in Sao Paulo Tonight

SAO PAULO — Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Flavio Bolsonaro will face off on Sunday night in the first televised debate of the presidential runoff, Reuters reported. The debate, hosted by broadcaster Band TV, is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Sao Paulo, one week before the runoff vote on October 25.
Supporters of both candidates also held rallies in several cities on Sunday. In the first round of voting on October 4, Flavio Bolsonaro finished ahead of Lula by nearly two percentage points, and recent polls show him narrowly leading the runoff race.
Flavio Bolsonaro is the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro. Sunday's debate is the first head-to-head encounter between the two candidates in the runoff campaign. (GSM, based on Reuters reporting)
