Ukraine: Oleshky Ceasefire Holds as Two Aid Vehicles Come Under Drone Attack

Saturday, October 31, 2026 · World · GSM News

Each day the ceasefire in Oleshky holds means hope for civilians in the city, UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher said on October 30, stressing that those wishing to leave must be able to do so safely and voluntarily.

The ceasefire, brokered by US First Lady Melania Trump and announced by the White House on October 23, aims to relieve the humanitarian emergency faced by trapped residents on the Russian-controlled left bank of the Dnipro and is due to end on the evening of November 1. UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said the UN had not played a role in the evacuation itself but was providing aid to evacuees as they reach the Ukrainian side of the frontline.

Meanwhile, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said two humanitarian vehicles came under drone attack on Thursday: in the Zaporizhzhia region, a clearly marked civilian bus was struck, killing a woman and injuring passengers and the driver, on a service supporting a community of more than 1,600 people; in Sloviansk, Donetsk region, an armoured evacuation vehicle was hit, injuring two evacuees.

Attacks on energy infrastructure also left 190,000 consumers in Dnipro region without electricity on Friday morning. Dujarric said the Secretary-General strongly condemns the Russian strike on Dnipro railway station, where the death toll now stands at 15 according to media reports, and noted it was not an isolated case.
