Trump Says Someone Other Than Zelenskiy Should Negotiate With Russia on Ukraine's Behalf

Washington — President Donald Trump told reporters on October 19 that he thought someone other than Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy should negotiate on Kyiv's behalf to end the war with Russia, according to Reuters. "Maybe it's time for Zelenskiy to get somebody else to negotiate," Trump said.
Trump also said Russia has been "fine" with regard to Ukraine, adding that "they haven't been doing much." He said the United States continued to share intelligence with Ukraine and that he would consider allowing Ukrainians to stay in the United States under Temporary Protected Status (TPS) until the war ended.
Trump had called on October 10 for Ukraine to replace its president, as this outlet previously reported; his October 19 remarks were his latest on who should represent Ukraine in talks. Separately, Trump said a day earlier that he was willing to join a three-way meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
