Rajinikanth's 'Jailer 2' Crosses ₹600 Crore Worldwide; Studio Claims a Tamil-Record ₹549 Crore First Week

Sun Pictures announced on October 22 that 'Jailer 2,' the Tamil action comedy directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and starring Rajinikanth, grossed more than ₹549 crore worldwide in its first week, which the studio called the highest-grossing first week in Tamil cinema history and labeled an industry mega blockbuster. Follow-up reporting on October 23 put the film's worldwide total past ₹600 crore, making it only the third Rajinikanth film to cross that mark. The film opened in theaters worldwide on October 15 and is now in its second week, still drawing more than ₹5 crore in advance reservations a week after release.

Rajinikanth reprises his role as retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and Mirnaa return from the first film, joined by new cast members S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan and Suraj Venjaramoodu, with cameo appearances by Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff, Hrithik Roshan and Vijay Sethupathi, among others.

Actor Allu Arjun praised the film on social media on October 22, calling it 'a true showcase of Rajinikanth sir's star power, swag and aura,' and credited director Nelson with delivering a commercial entertainer and composer Anirudh with standout music.
